Big changes are happening at one of the region’s most beloved bakeries—Farmstead has officially changed its name to Bonrue Bakery.
While the news may surprise longtime fans, the change comes with an inspiring story of growth, vision, and staying true to what matters most: serving up the same mouthwatering pastries, cakes, pies, and croissants that customers have come to know and love.
Over the past several months, the bakery has been expanding rapidly—growing from a humble team of just 15 employees to a thriving staff of 100. As part of that growth, it became clear that the name “Farmstead” couldn’t be trademarked, which meant it couldn’t move forward with the business into new markets.
It wasn’t an easy decision. The name Farmstead carried a lot of heart and history. But after months of research, focus groups, and name hunting, one word kept rising to the top: Bonrue.
Bonrue is a made-up name, but it carries powerful meaning. “Bon” translates to “good,” and “rue” means “street” or “way.” Together, it symbolizes “a good place, a good way, and a good future.” It was overwhelmingly favored in focus groups—including loyal customers and folks who had never even heard of the original name. Over 90% chose Bonrue as the clear favorite.
And so, Bonrue Bakery was born.
Aside from the new name, everything customers love remains the same—only better. The display cases are still full of golden, buttery croissants, vibrant fruit tarts, rich cakes, and handcrafted pies that practically melt in your mouth.
The team behind Bonrue is excited for what’s next: growing into new communities, serving more families, and keeping the warm, welcoming spirit that made Farmstead a fan favorite from the very beginning.
